GENEALOGY DATABASE

We have taken the logical step of creating a genealogy database into which participants of the Clan Donnachaidh
Y-DNA and mtDNA programs can enter and share family histories with others already in the database.

You must be a member of the Clan Donnachaidh Society of Scotland to be allowed access to the Clan Donnachaidh genealogy database. Those who are not members of the Society can become members by opening the "HOME" page of our website, www.donnachaidhinternational.com , and clicking on the blue link titled SOCIETY APPLICATION. The application, which will open in a separate window, can be printed, completed and mailed to Scotland along with £10 ($20 U.S.).

Clan Donnachaidh Society members in good standing can enter the genealogy database by clicking on the green “Clan Genealogy” button below, then clicking on “Register for User Account". A form will open for you to complete and submit.

*****NOTICE*****

The following question in the registration form will be shown indicating “no”.  If you are a member of the Society change the answer
    to “yes”.

Are you a member of the Clan Donnachaidh Society?
Yes    No

Once you have submitted your request and verification has been made, you will receive instructions for entering the program.

 IMPORTING YOUR DATA:

Steps to upload your Gedcom or enter individuals:

1.     Log in once you receive your user name and password.

2.     Go to "Administration"

3.     If you already have your family tree entered in your computer, you may click on "Import/Export" to upload your GEDCOM file.
Or, you may click on the "People" tab and enter each person individually.

4.     Call or email us if you have any problems.

If you're entering it one record at a time, enter People, Families and Sources first.

Once your data has been entered or imported, you can start linking in photos, histories and headstones. Have fun! Additional help can be found on each subpage, as well as in the readme.html file.

How does data get into TNG? Do I need a GEDCOM* file?

If you already have your genealogy in a desktop program (like PAF, Legacy, FamilyTreeMaker, Reunion, etc.), then the quickest and easiest way to get your data into TNG is to have your program output a GEDCOM file (standard method of genealogical data exchange) and then import it into TNG. The whole process takes only a few minutes (or less, depending on how big your file is). Of course you don't really need a GEDCOM file. If you want to enter your data by hand directly into TNG, you can do that through the administrative interface.

* **    When entering a person or a family into your family tree please keep in mind the notice regarding ID numbers below:

Assigning an ID number for each person is important. Each individual's number should begin with the capital "I".

The "I" is for "Individual" (all the family IDs start with "F", the sources with "S", etc.). That's pretty much the GEDCOM standard.

Unfortunately you cannot change the ID once the record has been added. You will need to delete the individual and add them back again.
